Types of Surgery Performed at MTSJH
The Surgical Services department includes
Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery, Endoscopy and Central Processing.
The surgery suites are identical, to make efficient scheduling of
the many types of surgery possible. General Inpatient and
Outpatient Surgery includes Laparoscopic procedures such as Nissen
Fundoplication (hiatal hernia repair), Cholecystectomy (gallbladder
removal) and Inguinal hernia repairs. Other surgical specialties
include Gynecology, Urology (including Lithotripsy), Orthopedics
(including Total Joint Replacement and Arthroscopy of the Knee and
Shoulder), Podiatry, and Ophthalmology (including cataract and
blepharoplasty).
Services in the Outpatient Surgery Department
include transfusions, chemotherapy, and antibiotic injections.
Endoscopic Procedures include Colonoscopy, Gastroscopy, and
Sigmoidoscopy. Central Processing is responsible for packaging and
sterilizing the sterile instruments used in the surgical
department, as well as other hospital departments and clinics, and
physician offices.
Susan Stockton, R.N. is the Department
Manager; Robert Haymond, M.D. is Chief of Surgery and Peter Oliver,
