What is ROP?
Mark Twain St. Joseph's Hospital is actively
involved with educating local high school students through the
Calaveras County Regional Occupational Program for Hospital and
Community Health Services - commonly called ROP - Medical.
This program affords students who are interested in health careers
a melding of classroom instruction and skills learned with the
direct application of the knowledge and skills in a health care
facility.
Requirements:
Students
complete a core unit during the first quarter of the school year,
interview for the training position they are interested in, and
then complete a minimum of 250 hours of hands-on clinical
training.
Current
Structure:
Various hospital
departments, including off campus facilities, participate in the
training of the health care providers/workers of tomorrow. At any
given time during the school year, there are over
15 students participating in the program. Mark Twain St.
Joseph's Hospital currently employs several graduates of the
program.
Future
Needs:
Additional training
facilities and opportunities are needed to accommodate future
participants. If you are interested in participating as a training
site or as a student, you may obtain more information by
